[UK] Government lines up digital TV switchover team

SwitchCo, the independent company which the Government and Ofcom hope will take responsibility for managing the switchover to fully digital TV broadcasting by 2012, is expected to be in operation early in the New Year. ¶ The main players in the broadcast sector, the BBC, regulator Ofcom and the Government itself are all expected to play a role in the formation and industrail make-up of SwitchCo but none of them wants to be be seen to be leading the venture. ¶ According to Ofcom, the formation of a strong industry lead organisation to manage, the supply chain, specturm and broadcast issues is "necessary to drive" the switchover to digital TV broadcasts in the UK. ... electronicsweekly.com link
