Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. is latching onto the "podcasting"
phenomenon, launching a show later this month that will feature a daily
selection of the increasingly popular do-it-yourself audio programs. ...¶... The show, which Sirius was expected to formally announce on Monday,
will begin broadcasting weekdays on May 13. It will be hosted by Adam
Curry, the former MTV personality who helped create the technological
tools that allow podcasting to work. The show will be broadcast on
Sirius channel 148, a talk-radio station that does carry commercials,
unlike Sirius' all-music channels. ... Link: AP via Yahoo!. Sorry, not enough to get me to subscribe to Sirius, but it's more compelling than Howard Stern. There's also a New York Times story on this.
On a related note, Adam Curry has also signed Steve Gillmor to resurrect the popular Gillmor Gang podcast and also do a daily effort along the same lines. Link: Steve Gillmor's InfoRouter. I've been working with Steve for nearly two dog/Internet years on the Public Service Publisher/OMN initiative where he's served as toughlovemeister and boatman on the River Styx wormhole between his parallel universe and ours in public broadcasting. Sorry, don't know when this will be ready to launch, but will drop a note for the tech-hungry among readers of this weblog when I find out. --Dennis
