    Portable DVR, Satellite Radio and the Future of Mobile Media

    Walter Hough writes:  "Mobile satellite TV service is already a reality in Korea, but a similar service is expected on US shores in the coming months. French portable media device manufacturer Archos has recently teamed with Echostar to release the PocketDish, which records and plays satellite TV programming on the go. Archos, which pioneered hard-drive MP3 players in 2000, recently shipped its AV 700, one of its cutting-edge portable digital video recorders (DVR), which allows consumers to record programming from their VCR, DVD, cable box, or satellite TV receiver. The device comes in 40GB and 100GB models, which can hold up to 400 hours of video or 250 full-length movies. The PocketDish will play a host of audio and video formats including MP3, WMA, Divx, and MPEG4. ...ΒΆ... Not mentioned in the deal is Sirius, which provides satellite radio channels to Dish Network subscribers.
