Web presentation guru Jakob Nielsen applies logarithmic scaling (actually, log-log scaling) to some real world "long tail" (power curve) data and finds a "drooping tail." His take-home is that it shows that sites have potential for increasing traffic by adding large amounts of low-volume traffic. Link: UseIt.com. Thanks to Tom Foremski at SiliconValleyWatcher.
In a follow-up, author of The Long Tail, Chris Anderson, applies the log-log scaling to United States movie box office data in, A Billion Dollar Question. Anderson provides links to additional reading at the end of his post. Link: The Long Tail. --Dennis
