Clay Dillow reports that LightSquared will be providing 4G LTE mobile broadband from a satellite, SkyTerra 1, that was successfully launched around the middle of this month. A second one will be launched in 2011. The satellites will augment LightSquared’s ground coverage.

David Gardner says that it plans to offer service at only “300 kbps, though there are plans to provide high-speed LTE service in some selected areas.” Link: Information Week. In another article, Gardner says that LightSquared’s terrestrial LTE network is more ambitious -- “40,000 cellular base stations that will cover 92% of the U.S. population by 2015.” Link: Information Week. --Dennis
